Matthew Cottle, Of Counsel
Mid Atlantic Region

Matthew became an Of Counsel member of Jeffrey Byrne & Associates upon being named Assistant Dean for Advancement at California Polytechnic State University in July 2009. He had joined JB&A as Vice President for the Mid-Atlantic Region in 2007 following service as Vice President for Advancement at West Liberty University in West Virginia. At Cal Poly, Matthew now carries the added title of Director of Corporate and Foundation Relations for the university.

Matthew began his development career as a Woodrow Wilson Fellow serving universities in Nashville, TN and Houston, TX. Following a successful campaign at the University of Idaho, Matthew led fundraising for the Princeton University School of Engineering during Princeton’s $1-billion Anniversary Campaign. He later led the major gifts staff and served as campaign architect for a $300-million campaign on behalf of the National Academies in Washington, DC. As vice president for advancement, Matthew has led fundraising and campaign programs for Franklin W. Olin College (Needham, MA) and West Liberty University (Wheeling, WV).

An active member of the Association of Fundraising Professionals, Matthew recently was designated by AFP as a “Master Trainer” – one of only 200 AFP members to have earned this designation. He is serving his third term as a member of the AFP Conference Education Advisory Committee and is the past board vice president for the AFP Western Pennsylvania chapter.

During his time as Vice President with JB&A, Matthew served a variety of clients in the social services sector.
